Thiruvananthapuram: Amritha Chaithanya alias Santosh Madhavan, the controversial Godman from Kerala has been held by the police on Tuesday.

Swami, who ran an orphanage for girls in Kochi has been accused of raping a minor. A case has been registered against him after a 15-year-old girl filed a complaint. The police suspect that there could be more such victims.

“Apart from the case related to raids on his house, there is also a case of rape filed against him. A 15-year old girl filed a complaint Tuesday morning,” says Commissioner of Police, Kochi, Manoj Abraham.

Earlier in the day, the Kerala police arrested the Godman along with his driver. He was interrogated following which the police say, he admitted to taking Rs 45 lakh from an Indian woman in the UAE.

Although he reasoned that it was partly for his services as an astrologer and partly as loan but the Kerala High Court rejected his anticipatory bail application.

Amritha Chaitanya has an Interpol Red Corner notice against him in the cheating case. However, the police say he hasn't been arrested in connection with it.

“He cannot be arrested in the cheating case since he is wanted by the UAE police,” says Manoj Abraham.

The police are also pressing for a case against him for possessing three passports. He will be produced before the Kerala High Court on Wednesday.

Kerala police might be struggling hard to find a strong case against the Godman. Nonetheless, by nabbing him, the state perhaps wants to send a strong signal that no one can trespass law even if one is a spiritual.
