TRUST VOTE: The National Democratic alliance (NDA) faced a dramatic blow in the trust vote on Tuesday.
New Delhi: The National Democratic alliance (NDA) faced a dramatic blow in the trust vote on Tuesday. However, if the Congress floor managers had easy success stories to narrate, it was because legislators of BJP and its allies were waiting to be grabbed.
Unhappiness with leadership, impact of delimitation and fast-changing political equations forced the rebel Members of Parliament (MPs) to go with the nuclear deal.
"BJP is a good party. But the nuclear deal is good for the country,” says BJP MP Karnataka, HT Sangliana.
Former super cop turned politician echoed the sentiments of many other BJP MPs who were under pressure to vote against the deal.
Some of the MPs switched sides in a lightning speed. But all denied a deal within deal for shifting loyalties.
Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) MP from Bangalore North, HT Sangliana denies reports of any deal within deal and says his conscience guided him to back the UPA. He led the exodus of BJP MPs to Congress in Karnataka, where the party captured power just two months back.
BJP MP from Dharwad South Manjunath Kunnur also followed Sangliana.
While Chikmagalur MP was absent because of ill health, Udupi MP Manorama Madhwaraj abstained in favour of Congress.
Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda who sided with Mayawati eyeing Dalit votes was jolted by the rebellion of the Dalit face of his party M Shivanna.
“Alliance with Mayawati is not good for us,” says M Shivanna.
Meanwhile, even if it the Government’s victory was anticipated, nobody expected the victory margin to be an unbelievable nineteen in a supposedly close race.BLUR_B
