New Delhi: A week after violence marred Guwahati following an All Assam Adivasi Students Union procession, demanding Scheduled Tribe status, CNN-IBN reveals exclusive behind-the-scenes information.

CNN-IBN has copies of the intelligence report that warned the state government and the police about possibilities of violence during the adivasi rally.

The documents reveal that the Chief Minister's office, DGP, IG (Law and Order) and Guwahati DIG had been sent two alerts prior to the clashes.

The report had asked the government machinery to "take adequate preventive/precautionary measures for maintenance of law and order to avert any untoward incident."

While admitting security lapses, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gagoi told CNN-IBN that's outsiders are largely responsible for creating trouble in Assam and projecting the state in poor light

“I brought the situation under control in one hour. State government has been very vigilant. Initially there were lapses but it was soon taken under control. People of Assam and I are very sorry that we were projected in a bad light,” he said.

On November 24, the fallout of All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA) march, demanding Scheduled Tribe status, had turned violent leading to deaths, injuries and an unfortunate incident of stripping of an adivasi woman.
