Gujarat: Pvt college quota comes under SC purview

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Gujarat government on the issue of admission to private colleges in the state.
The Gujarat Government's policy provided 75 per cent reservation of seats under the government quota and 25 per cent under the management quota.
The students and the Parents Associations have termed the new quota system as unconstitutional and challenged it before the Supreme Court. The matter is likely to be heard on the July 21.
This year, the state government has, however, devised a new quota system for admission into medical colleges.
Under the system, 10 per cent of the seats have been reserved under the management quota, 15 per cent for NRI quota, three per cent for the handicapped and 49 per cent for SC, ST and OBC categories.
This takes the total reservation in medical colleges to 77 per cent.
