Gurjar agitation spills to effect neighbouring states

New Delhi: As the deadlock between Gurjars and the Rajasthan government continues, vital transport routes from Delhi were disrupted on Monday.

Some families are left to weigh their options. While their train to Kota was cancelled, travelling by road from Delhi is equally risky. Gurjar protestors blocked roads to the city.

“Our son studies in Udaipur. We have to go and meet him,” says Amarinder.

Passenger trains heading to Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram had to be cancelled. With trouble along the Kota route in Rajasthan, some trains were diverted to the Mathura-Agra-Bhopal route.

Gurjar protestors blocked National Highway number 8 to Jaipur. And Delhi was witness to similar protests, with a road blockade in East Delhi.

Protestors in similar clashes targeted major transport routes to and from Delhi even last year, causing heavy inconvenience not only to passengers but also to the transport of goods.

The Gurjar agitation also affected court proceedings in the national capital region. The accused in the Noida double murder case, Dr Rajesh Talwar could not be presented in court for his bail hearing as Gurjar lawyers went on strike.

However, May 29th is expected to be even a tougher day for Delhiites. The Gurjar Mahapanchayat of NCR has resolved to stop the supply of milk and vegetables to the city on that day.

The Gurjar agitation is a clear example of how a deadlock in one state spills over its borders to affect its neighbours.
