Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday reserved its verdict on a petition challenging an order which rejected an application questioning megastar Amitabh Bachchan's assertion in advertisements that crime was less in Uttar Pradesh during the Samajwadi Party regime.
A division Bench of the court comprising Justice U K Dhaon and Justice S S Chauhan reserved their order after hearing the counsel for the petitioner.
The petitioner had earlier sought to know from the State Information Commissioner, the basis of Bachchan's claim in the ad UP mein hai dam kyonki jurm yahan hai kam (crime is less in Uttar Pradesh).
However, it was rejected after Amitabh Bachchan's counsel replied to the notice issued to him by the commission.
The petitioner further submitted that Amitabh Bachchan did not send his reply by registered post as directed by the commission nor did he appear before it.
The commission, instead of initiating proceedings under section 18 (3), disposed of the complaint relying on the fax, he submitted.
