Pune: The most celebrated hub of Ganpati in Pune is the Dagaduseth Ganesh and this year it has an added attraction — the idol will be seen wearing a headgear made by one of the most famous and oldest manufacturers in the city.
The shop, known as Murudkar Zendewalle, has been around for the last five decades and this year they were given the charge of decorating Dagadushet Ganesh's headgear.
And they came up with a set of 10 pagadis (headgear), one to adorn the Ganesh each day.
The makers of the pagadis say that the inspiration for these head gears have come from various sources. Like the Shindeshahi pagadi, which is modelled on the pagadis worn by the Scindia's of Gwalior. Or the Puneri pagadi, used by the pundits of Pune in the 19th century.
"We have just completed the work on the pagadis and we studied headgears of different states, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and then shortlisted 10 models. Then we made clay models and designed the decorations for the pagadis. It was a tough job as the pagadis had to fit above the golden crown of the Ganesh crown," owner of Murudkar Zendewalle, Girish Murudkar said. The makers say an estimated Rs 55,000 was spent on each pagadi. So the set of 10 headgears in totality cost the Dagaduseth Ganesh an amount of Rs 5,50,000.
But this is probably peanuts for the Ganapati who collects more than Rs 15 crore as contribution during the festival.
