Hyderabad: While your flashy mobile phone may shed light on your taste for all things bling, it’s the choice of ring tone that rings in more details about your personality.
Technology provider company, IMI mobile - in a survey of the total number of ringtones downloaded in the past year across the country - finds more than 90 per cent mobile users in India unwittingly make a “personality statement” through their ring tones.
"Those who are quiet or introverted, they'll choose calming or soulful music. And those who are extrovert will go for peppy music. But there's no absolute differentiation. Sometimes people may change the ringtone that matches with their mood,” says Dr Sona of the Psychiatry Department, Image Hospital.
Psychiatrists say while one can form a general opinion about an individual based on the ring tones, some people may use specific ring tones just to impress or mislead others.
"People would like to have new model phones in their hands, they would like to display, they want to flash around. Similarly, the ring tone is a statement run on top of that. So, definitely it's a statement of their style and personality,” says CEO, IMI Mobile, A R Vishwanath.
Some people may change their ring tone just to break the monotony, while in the case of others changing it too often may reflect mental disturbance.
Whatever the reason, Indians paid nearly Rs 800 crore in the last one year to their service providers to download the ring tones of their choice.
