New Delhi: The Capital is scorching with temperatures crossing 40 degree Celsius. Here is how you can be fully equipped to beat heat-related illnesses.
Temperatures are soaring in eastern central and northern India. In Orissa alone, 10 people have died due to the heat with temperatures hitting 42 degrees Celsius.
In the Capital, the temperatures have crossed the 40-degree mark. In other parts of the country Nagpur recorded the highest maximum temperature at 44 degree Celsius. Places like Bhopal, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Pune, Patna and Jaipur were scorching with over 40-degree temperature.
Kolkata, Mumbai Chennai, not far behind, have been sweltering with over 35 degrees Celsius.
So what is it that this searing heat can do to your health?
Internal Medicine Senior Consultant Dr Suranjit Chtterjee said, “Two most common diseases during summers is heat stroke and gastroenteritis. The other diseases that can strike you are typhoid and all infective diseases that are water-borne.”
In case of dehydration or heatstroke you need to take immediate action, else it could prove fatal.
“See to it that you are hydrated well so that you don’t get dehydrated. Try to acclimatise before going out into the heat straight away,” he added.
Here are some tips that can help avoid falling ill. Drink plenty of fluids drink sports drinks, ORS or lime water to maintain electrolyte balance.
But do not drink water from anywhere. Only drink bottled or purified water. And don't forget to carry your hats, sunglasses and umbrella to protect yourself from sun.
Children and the elderly are the most at risk of heat stroke and dehydration, but remember it can strike at any time.
So take extra care, and ensure you're well hydrated at all times.
