Barack Obama remained suave and charismatic, even in the face of defeat.
After conceding defeat, Obama congratulated Hillary on her victory and thanked the voters of New Hampshire for their support.
“For most of this campaign, we were following behind. We always knew our climb would be steep. But in record numbers, you came up and you spoke up for change. And with your voices and votes, you made it clear that at this moment, in this election, there is something happening in America,” he told cheering crowds.
Hillary got 39 per cent of the votes cast, while Obama bagged 37 percent.
Among the Republican candidates, John McCain won the New Hampshire caucus by managing to hold on to 37 percent of the votes.
“I spoke to the people of New Hampshire, I reasoned with you, I even argued with you, but I told you the truth as best as I could see it. And you listened. Thank you New Hampshire,” McCain said.
The New Hampshire primary witnessed a record voter turn out.
Reports say that at least half a million people cast their ballots.
Winning New Hampshire is crucial for the candidates.
It will have a big impact on how they perform when more than 24 states hold polls on 5th February.
