Ahmedabad: A group of people ransacked the Amdavad Ni Gufa and the Herwitz Art Gallery in Ahmedabad early on Monday morning.

Some paintings of artist MF Husain were on display in the two galleries.

An organisation called the Hindu Swabhimaan Sena claimed responsibility for the attack.

The attackers could not enter the place where Hussain's paintings are on show. But they broke glasses of the complex.

After the attack, the attackers called up media offices claiming responsibility. Police have cordoned off the area.

Husain was embroiled in a controversy last week over the naked depiction of Mother India in his latest painting. The painting drew protest from various fundamentalist groups.

The Husain canvas was pulled out of public eye at an auction after the protest.
