Hope fading for kid trapped in borewell

RUNNING AGAINST TIME: Rescuers have been trying to reach Suraj for the past two days.
Jaipur: Hopes of survival are fading fast for two-and-a-half-year-old Suraj Banjara who fell into a 180-feet deep borewell near Jaipur on Wednesday evening.
It has been nearly 40 hours and officials involved in the rescue efforts haven't been able to bring Suraj out.
Rescue operations are still on at a feverish pitch but the authorities are worried as the boy has shown no sings of any movement for the past few hours.
They say it will be difficult to bring him out alive.
"Rescue work was stalled since 0500 hrs IST on Friday since the efforts till now were not very helpful. It will start afresh now. There is very less chance of getting out the child alive," Additional District Magistrate (City), Jaipur VP Singh said.
"Doctors say the chances of Suraj's survival are very slim. Maybe he fainted and then went into a coma and there has been no movement for a long time. We are trying our best and supplying him oxygen," Singh added.
However, Additional Collector (Jaipur) Ramesh Chand Sharma sounded more optimistic.
"The boy is in the pipe and we have taken the opinion of the doctors and they say that possibility of his survival cannotv be ruled out. The exact position can be found out only when we are in a position to dig him out. We are making all the efforts to dig him out. We are planning to open the vent and in case it does not work we will pull the pipe out. There is every likelihood of his survival," Sharma said.
But Sharma also pointed out that they have not been able to feed the child.
"The way he is struck in the pipe, it is not possible to feed him and he is not able to speak," he added.
Suraj fell into the 180-feet deep borewell at Mudia Ramsar near Jaipur while playing at about 1600 hrs IST on Wednesday evening.
The boy was unconscious when he was spotted in the borewell.
Rescue forces swung into action and one fire tender, a digging machine and some engineers have been working out plans to rescue the child.
A parallel hole is being dug near the borewell to get closer to the boy. Oxygen is being pumped into in the borewell and proper electricity arrangements have also been made at the site.
The Army too has been called to the site as Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has asked the authorities to leave no stone unturned to rescue the boy.
