Mumbai: Twenty-year-old Anirudh, a student from Ranchi on holiday in Hyderabad was at the laser show at Lumbini Park on Saturday.
He remembers hearing a loud explosion, just metres away from where he was sitting. Then there was utter chaos.
Anirudh blacked out, and when he came to at the Medicity hospital a few hours later, he found himself paralysed waist-down.
“I tried to get up from the chair, but fell down. After that I couldn't move,” he said.
P Arun, an engineering student from Maharashtra, was lucky enough to have survived the blast but he's still struggling to come to terms with the news of the death of his classmates.
“I'm just shocked. Why would anybody want to hurt us, ruin our lives like this?” said Arun.
For both Arun and Anirudh, it was their first trip to the pearl city. They didn't know it was to alter their lives forever. They are victims of a mindless terror act.
The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the families of those who died in the blasts. For those who survived and those who lost family or friends, it will be a while before they can piece their lives back together.
