Mumbai: The Reserve Bank of India Governor, Y V Reddy and the Finance Ministry want it, so, IIT Bombay is working on a two-year masters degree in Financial Markets Analysis.

“If Mumbai has to become a financial hub then apart from global financial services industry needs manpower who are required for financial analysis who will define financial products and do market analysis,” said Chair Professor of School Of IT, IIT-B, Deepak Pathak.

Multinational companies are said to have already donated grants to the tune of $3-5 million to set up the programme and the RBI and other financial institutions have also promised sustainance grants.

The course will commence with an initial intake of about 200 to 250 students.

Masters in financial analysis or its equivalent is a popular programme in most leading universities abroad.

IIT-Bombay is currently in talks with professors from the London School of Economics to join in as guest lecturers and kick start this programme in 2009.
