I think what is said and written abt air deccan is correct as they never allocate seat no. may be by this they are able to stay out of over book purview as no evidence stays with passenger.

I have booked a ticket on airdeccan.net on 8th March. The amount for the ticket has been deducted from my credit card, but the ticket has not been issued to me. My repeated calls / mails fax to airdeccan has not yielded anything as yet. Would advise everyone not to ever try and book ticket online with airdeccan. One may get cheap tickets a couple of times, but one error (system error at airdeccan, which is quite a possibility in lieu of the cheaper systems) can wipe out all the benefits gained. i would request CNN_IBM to help me recover some of my maoney if possible as noone in airdeccan seems to be helping. call center numbers are a waste(again due to cheaper systems and lesser number of executives)as i keep holding for hours and am told to call again after some time. PLEASE HELP

Passengers suffering because of not keeping the passengers informed of the delay is become a regular phenomenon with the introduction of private airlines. As the delay increses one by one the officials of the airline would be missing. Atlaest this has not been the case with IA

This is very true and I had been at the receiving end of the 'cheap' budget airlines. Also, I would like to point out the tricks employed by certain websites in luring the customers by quoting a very low price first and then duping the customer later by denying the flight at the quoted cost. I tried booking a flight from a website owned by one of the leading media houses today and the price which was quoted was really mouth watering. I grabbed the offer and booked my ticket only to realise a little later that they are just making a fool out of me. I got a call from their customer care a little later and I was told that either I pay up Rs 2,500 more or they will cancel the tickets. Incidentally at the time of booking the ticket with this website, I checked a few other websites and they were offering fares which were about 1000 bucks more than this website.Thank heavens that I had time and I was fortunate enough to buy another ticket from the airlines' website directly, however, the entire experience to deal with them was quite unpleasant.

I dont know about security but low cost airlines specially air deccan is a headache. they upgraded their software which led to a total chaos for days.. nobody was able to book/cancel tickets and customer care did not care to pick up calls...Not even the corporate office in Bangalore was of any help..Air deccan office at the Bangalore Airport just had one thing to say and I quote " Sir the server is down! we cannot help you!!"

Any change as drastic as low cost airlines will be disruptive and will need some time to settle down. If not for the competition brought in by Air Deccan/Go-Air etc. we would be paying through our nose to Mallya and Co for their bashes in Goa.
However, safety is important and this story only reveals the lacunae in the system with a indifferent/corrupt DGCA /Airport Authority who fail to enforce rules. Its time these blokes were held responsible instead of localizing this to budget airlines.
India is a poor country and we need more Air Deccans than premium services.

Low Cost Carriers are doing a great job by enabling the common man to afford air travel but it does appear that they do at times cut corners, thereby compromising air safety norms. There have been far too many instances of flight overbooking and offloading of passengers in the recent past. In one ridiculous instance, grown up children were asked to be accommodated on elders’ laps so that the airline could push through the excess boarding passes issued. Operating cheap flights to a large number of destinations by squeezing a limited number of airplanes to amortize their flying time as much as possible is fraught with risks of bypassing mandatory checks and engineering support. One brief delay because of a technical problem or the weather, and it spreads through the rest of the network, multiplying in impact. Continual delays and cancellations by a budget airline in Europe resulted in suspension of its flight certification by civil aviation authorities; this struck a blow to the ambitious growth plans of the operator. The airplane has come a long way from being a luxury to a mode of travel that is necessary and popular but violating air safety norms and risking precious lives can be disastrous & have an adverse impact on the image of low cost aviation. Airlines should not only honour their contractual obligations of safe transportation but also espouse ‘business models with a conscience’. Issues of steep airport charges, rising costs of aviation fuel, inadequate staffing, limited infrastructure, lack of inter-airline agreements between LCCs and a plethora of associated problems could lead the operators into deep trouble. Regulatory and controlling bodies like DGCA and AAI must be very strict in their role of superintendence of matters concerning air safety; they must sit down with airline operators and impress upon them to perform or perish!

Well said...Now a days Airports have worser than the Bus stands...The employees of the carriers keep yelling at the top of their voice like Bus conductors...Delhi! Delhi! Delhi!...Mumbai! Mumbai etc., The toilets of the Airports are stinking... There used to be time when flying was considered to be a luxury...its not anymore thanks to the low cost airlines...but at what cost....At the cost of safety of passengers, at the cost of stinking airports...Certainly quality has gone for a toss...

Cheap Budget Airlines passengers are requested to take with them a bottle of phenyle,a Jhaadu,a bucket/Lota filled with water...to clear the stinking toilets at the Airports which are the oddly enough the domain of the Airport Authority of India...another Govt.Organisation of lazy bums!

Thanks for airing the news. Most of the times a layman can only shout at the airport counter or call them and they are anyway used to it and would not bother.
I had a bad experience with AirDeccan. I tried to book a ticket on Feb 28, 2007 around 11 PM for travel on 1st March, 2007. Unfortunately, this transaction took more than 30 minutes and i had no choice except to close the window. I came across a pathetic experience on March 1, 2007 morning when i tried to reach the customer support, I was kept on hold for 36 minutes and 43 seconds fortunately one lady responded to my call and after listening to my grievance she wants me to send an email to winnie_vas@airdeccan.net. I sent a mail and it bounced back. After that repeated number of attempts of calling them was a waste of time. The amount I am going to lose around Rs.5000 for none of my fault. Today (March 23, '07) when I went to the airport to enquire, they have directed me to their Corporate office. If you could help me in getting back the money, it would be great.

I would request CNN-IBN to also look into the cancellation and refund system of these Airlines. I would like to refer to a very recent experince of mine, I booked 2 tickets in Air Sahara from Delhi to Kolkata on 26th Feb thru internet almost a month before, on 25th evening around 9PM, i have been informed that the flight has been cancelled for COMMERCIAL reason and we are entitled for full refund. I had to book myself into another flight paying higher fare to come to kolkata, Afte reaching Kolkata i had been to Air Sahara Counter and asked them to stamp my ticket for cancellation, initially they were little reluctant in stamping, but when i pressurised they agreed to stamp the ticket writing that the flight has been cancelled and i will get full refund, today almost a month has gone and my money has not been refunded, when i contacted Air Sahara Customer Care, they say they are looking into it. Please take up this matter, i can provide all the details along with the stamped canceled ticket.
