It is highly appreciable that Indian scientists have succeeded miniaturizing the nuclear reactor of the ATV without the help of key foreign countries. Now they should achieve mastery in making other sub systems of nuclear powered submarine.

That's a great achievement for people involved in this project, goverenment and us. But its sad to see that these news don't find much coverage most of the times.Print/E-Media has a responsility and they should be able to differentiate between a good news and masala news.It should understand that people want news not Masala.

Let's not get too terribly excited. First, the ATV is supposed to be launched sometimes this year, with seat trials finishing by 2012. Going by reality and past history, this would imply operational service by 2017-2020. In any case, it's a good platform for the sub-launched BrahMos missiles with a nonconventional warhead. In the meanwhile, a clutch of Kilos and/or Akulas placed near the continental shelf off China carrying the BarMos with a substantial range increase, would serve as a stop gap deterrent against China till the Agni III is operationalized, after which the two systems could work in tendem.
