A year later in 1983, colour TV sales shot up as India geared up for the Prudential Cricket World Cup.

India's cricketers surprised the world and their own fans by reaching the final.

On the hallowed turf at Lord's in England, India beat the world's most dominant team, two time champions the West Indies by 43 runs to become world champions. The result sent shockwaves around the globe.

One moment lingers in the mind of every Indian cricket fan from that day.

Kapil Dev ran back to take a stunning catch to dismiss the great Viv Richards, just as he threatened to finish the game of quickly.
