New Delhi: India have got off to the perfect start on Friday by taking a 2-0 lead over Japan in their Asia Oceania Davis cup tie in New Delhi.

India's top ranked singles player Rohan Bopanna carved out a tough five-set win over Japan's No. 1 player Kei Nishikori in the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group 1 second-round tie at RK Khanna Stadium.

Bopanna, who decided to play the match despite a knee injury, won 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 to give India the edge in the tie.

Prakash Amritraj also had to go through a thrilling five setter to get India the 2-0 lead.

Prakash beat Go Seoda 4-6, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4, 8-6. and with Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi taking the court on Saturday for the doubles match, India at the moment looks set to clinch the tie easily and progress to the World Group play offs.
