New Delhi: Three Indians were on Tuesday killed in a Taliban suicide attack on a NATO supply company's compound in Kabul. The three Indians were working in a housing compound, when the Taliban attack began with a suicide bomb in a large truck. Two or three insurgents fought guards for about 30-40 minutes before all the attackers were killed.
"India's Mission is providing all assistance in completion of legal formalities for repatriation of bodies of three Indians killed in Kabul attack," Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said. The Taliban truck bomb and gun attack killed at least nine people. The entrance to the NATO supply company compound was destroyed in the insurgent assault. The group provides many NATO bases with food, water, fuel and other supplies, as well as maintaining military storage buildings and accommodation.
Its compound is close to UN offices and several NATO bases. A British national was also killed in the suicide attack. Media reports also said that there were other foreigners among those killed. The Taliban claimed responsibility for Tuesday's attack. The pressure on Afghan government to secure a peace deal with the rebels before international troops pull out by the end of 2014 continued to mount amid a spate of such attacks recently.
