New Delhi: Delhi government has turned down Delhi Lokayukta's request to send its report against Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to the president for review of an earlier decision in a case relating to alleged misrepresentation of facts by her on construction of low-cost flats. In an order in July last year, Lokayukta Justice Manmohan Sarin had recommendation to the president to censure Dikshit for allegedly misrepresenting facts on construction of flats for poor people ahead of 2008 Assembly polls.
The then president Pratibha Patil in November last year had 'advised' the Urban Development department, which is the nodal agency for construction of low cost flats, to exercise caution in making public announcements while rejecting the recommendation against Dikshit. The government, in an action taken report tabled in the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday, said there was no need to 'resubmit' the report of the Lokayukta to the president for reconsideration.
In his order in July last year, Justice Sarin had held that Dikshit 'misrepresented' to the public ahead of 2008 Assembly polls by saying that 60,000 flats were ready for handing over despite knowing well that the same were not ready, in order to 'obtain gain or favour to herself or her political party.' Dikshit had rejected the allegations.
In a special report, the Lokayukta had requested the government to send his report again to the President for review of the earlier decision or table it on the floor of Delhi Assembly. "The matter has been re-examined by the Government of Delhi and it has been decided that there is no need to resubmit this matter to the President of India for reconsideration in view of the decision already taken by the President of India," the government said in the action-taken report.
The Lokayukta had said Dikshit's 'misrepresentation' of facts was contained in a message of her in a booklet which was part registration form for allotment of flats to the urban poor and slum dwellers.
