New Delhi: The deadline set by government for Cable TV digitisation in 38 cities across fourteen states will end on Monday and television sets without set top boxes would go blank. These cities have been included in the second phase of digitisation as government claimed 67 per cent digitisation had been achieved in these places.
Information & Broadcasting Secretary Uday Kumar Varma on March 14 asserted the government is firm on the March 31 deadline of the phase II of digitisation in 38 towns.
However, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday sought deferring of the March 31 deadline by another six months.
In a letter to Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tiwari, the Chief Minister asked him to ensure that the existing analog transmission in seven Uttar Pradesh cities is not stopped. Yadav said set top boxes were in short supply in these cities and that prices of the ones available were soaring.
