New Delhi: HTC has finally announced the launch of the much-awaited HTC One in India. The phone will be available in India by the end of April at a price of Rs 42,900. The phone runs Google's Android software, but HTC is grafting its own home screen on the phone, one that's similar to that of Microsoft's Windows Phone software.
The new HTC One has a 4.7-inch (12-centimetre) screen, making it larger than the iPhone but smaller than some other Android phones, including HTC's own 5-inch (12.5-centimeter) Butterfly, which launched in November. The HTC One has the same screen resolution as the larger phone, at 1920 by 1080 pixels. The display also resists scratches and reduces glare, whilst offering 468ppi resolution.
The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600, quad-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz. It has 2GB DDR2 RAM and 32GB of total storage. HTC One features two speakers, at the top and bottom of the screen, producing a stereo effect when the phone is turned on its side for movie viewing. Another unusual feature is an infrared diode that lets the phone serve as a universal remote for a TV or media center.
The new HTC One feature the HTC UltraPixel Camera - a new imaging technology. The UltraPixel sensor is engineered with larger pixels, and it is touted to enable each pixel to capture more than 300 per cent more light than most leading 13 megapixel cameras. This is because the larger each pixel on the image sensor is, the more light it receives, and hence the image data becomes better.
HTC has made a deliberate choice to focus on photo quality with bigger pixel size over just total pixel count. UltraPixels are larger than ordinary pixels, and take up more space on the sensor. There are less megapixels - the new HTC One takes photos at 4 megapixels resolution, but the quality of each pixel is substantially higher than the industry average.
Commenting on this launch, Nilanjan Mukherjee, Chief Revenue Officer, Reliance Communications Limited said, "We are happy to exclusively partner with HTC to bring the new HTC One in India. Every Reliance GSM subscriber can now avail 1GB of 3G data free for 3 months along with free sharing of unlimited text, music, pictures and videos through WhatsApp and Facebook for 3 months. We are also offering free BigFlix subscription for 3 months that will enable Reliance 3G users to watch the latest movies on the go without having to worry about any additional data charges."
Its connectivity options include - 3.5 mm stereo audio jack, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, DLNA for wirelessly streaming media from the phone to a compatible TV or computer, support consumer infrared remote control, micro-USB 2.0 (5-pin) port with mobile high-definition video link (MHL) for USB or HDMI connection. The phone comes pakced with a rechargeable Li-polymer 2300 mAh battery.
