New Delhi: Priyanka Chopra has finally agreed to turn 'Badmaash Babli' for Sanjay Gupta's upcoming film 'Shootout At Wadala'. Priyanka will take on the Munnis and Sheilas of Bollywood with her first ever item song. The actress will be seen in a retro song in Sanjay Gupta's much-anticipated gangster film.
Confirming the news, director Sanjay Gupta tweeted, "So Priyanka Chopra it is guys! She will be performing our smashing retro chartbuster- 'Babli badmaash hai', composed by Anu Malik."
Since the past few months, rumours were doing the rounds that Priyanka has been approached for a retro song in Sanjay Gupta's upcoming film but there was no confirmation from either Sanjay or Priyanka's till now.
Meanwhile, according to Mumbai Mirror, the reason why the actress took a long time to sign on the dotted lines for the item song was that she wanted to go through the lyrics of the song to make sure that there were no suggestive words in the song.
It is, in fact, for the first time in Bollywood that any actor or actress has asked for the lyrics before signing on an item song. It seems the actress is taking a cue from the recent Delhi gangrape and the responsibility of the Bollywood in shaping the mindset of the people. Where Kareena Kapoor's 'Fevicol se' song from 'Dabangg 2' came under fire for having suggestive lyrics like 'gatka le muje alcohol se', Priyanka is taking the role of a Bollywood icon seriously and following a self-imposed censorship.
Mumbai Mirror later added that the actress went through three songs and only after going through the lyrics of all three of them she finally settled down for 'Badmaash Babli' as she found the song glamourous and not vulgar. In the times where heroines are signing on more item songs to add glamour to the films, Priyanka Chopra has stood against the tide and made a decision keeping her popularity and the responsibilities she has towards her fans.
