New Delhi: In a daring raid reminiscent of the Mumbai attack, terrorists in Lahore targeted the Sri Lankan cricket team as it travelled towards the Gaddafi stadium on Tuesday morning.
The funeral of the police officers killed in the attack was held late on Tuesday evening. But there was also a constable who resigned from his job.I saw this morning that our colleagues were killed, nobody seems to have any grief about them so I resigned from my police job. I will do some other work, such as in a mill, I don't want to be killed like them, says Lahore police constable, Ather Abbas. However, a stunned Sri Lanka reacted with shock and anger after terror attack on its cricket team, as the opposition targeted the government for sending the players in place of the Indian squad which pulled out due to security concerns. President Mahinda Rajapakse, who is on an official visit to Nepal, condemned the terrorist attack as "cowardly" and cut short his trip and rushed to Colombo. Meanwhile, Pakistani police interrogated five people in connection with a deadly ambush on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore, security officials said. "We have detained five people for questioning following the attack," senior local police officer Amjad Saleemi said.
