London: An Indian national was on Thursday charged in connection with the murder of a student from Andhra Pradesh who was found dead in a Birmingham suburb.

Nalloori Nagraj Kumar, 24, was arrested last evening and will be presented before the Birmingham Magistrate’s Court on Friday morning. Kumar is from Andhra Pradesh too.

V S Jyothirmayee, who was from Vijayawada, was found dead in her rented house in Handsworth, Birmingham, on Tuesday evening. She was pursuing a Masters course in public health at the University of Wolverhampton.

An autopsy has established that Jyothirmayee, 23, died of head injuries. Police have carried out forensic tests at Jyothirmayee’s home and nearby houses.

CNN-IBN Correspondent Akanksha Banerji reports the police issued a short press statement on Kumar’s arrest but refused to give details. Unconfirmed reports say Jyothirmayee’s neigbours have told the police that they heard a fight between two persons from Jyothirmayee’s house on Tuesday.

The University of Wolverhampton will hold a condolence meeting for Jyothirmayee on Friday.

This is the second murder of an Indian national in the Birmingham area in the last three years. Deepti Anurag, 23, was bludgeoned to death by her husband, also an Indian, in November 2005 in the University of Central England, Birmingham.

An IANS report says Jyothirmayee is the fourth student from Andhra Pradesh to be murdered abroad in the past six months. In March, A. Srinivas, a student from Karimnagar who was pursuing an MD in internal medicine in the US, was found dead with stab injuries in his room in the Scranton State University, Pennsylvania.

In December last year, two PhD students from Karimnagar and Kurnool districts were murdered in their hostel room in Louisiana State University in the US. Kiran Kumar and K. Chandrasekhara Reddy were shot dead by unidentified people.
