New Delhi: As the news of Delhi High Court pronouncing the verdict in the sensational and the long-drawn Jessical Lall case came out, reactions started pouring in thick and fast.

"I am extremely delighted. It’s a victory for judiciary. We have to complement the judicial system and the media," said former joint police commissioner of Delhi, Amod Kanth.

He added that police used the same evidence that they had used at the time of the initial investigations in 1999.

In Chandigarh - Manu Sharma's home town - the public opinion has largely been against Manu and most people expressed jubilation at the verdict, hailing it as a victory of "people power".

The Delhi HC verdict also spells trouble for Manu Sharma's father former Haryana minister Vinod Sharma, a close aide of the Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Meanwhile, one of the witnesses in the case, Deepak Bhojwani also reacted to the verdict from South Africa.

"I am happy that justice has been done ultimately which the lower court didn’t do," he told CNN-IBN from Johannesburg.

Film director and social activist Ashok Pandit said, "It’s another historic judgement. Hopes have risen for the common man. It’s an indication to the powerless, middle-class men that judiciary is the saving grace of the country."

"I want to thank the CNN-IBN for the pro-active role it played in highlighting the case. I also want to thank the media for its power to bring things to the forefront," he added.

Neelam Katara, the mother of Nitish Katara - whose murder case is being heard in the Delhi High Court - also expressed satisfaction over the verdict. "I am very happy with the verdict. I can understand what Sabrina (Lall) went through. And it'll be a great relief for her. Had Jessica's parents been alive, they would have been very happy today," she said, adding, "The Jessica Lall murder case and the Nitish murder case are very different. Vikas Yadav is also accused in the my son’s murder so the court should take his past history in account. But I have full faith in the judicial system and I know I will get justice. I urge all the people who have been denied justice not to sit at home, but to come forward and fight."

She also said that had Vikas not been granted bail in the Jessica Lall murder case, her son (Nitish Katara) wouldn’t have been murdered.
