Srinagar: The Ghulam Nabi Azad government in Jammu and Kashmir will face a floor test on or before July 7 to prove its majority after its junior alliance partner, PDP, pulled out from the coalition.

Azad, in a letter to Governor N N Vohra, had offered to prove his majority anytime on the floor of the house despite his government slipping into a minority following withdrawal of support of 18 MLAs on the issue of proposed transfer of land to board handling the Amarnath pilgrimage.

Vohra has asked Azad to prove his majority on or before July 7, an official spokesman said.

In a written communication to the governor, Azad had claimed that he continues to enjoy the support of the majority of assembly members despite withdrawal of support by the PDP and was ready to prove it on the floor of the House.

Ever since the political instability in the state, hectic activity has been seen at the residence of Azad with disgruntled MLAs from erstwhile alliance partner - PDP and majority of independents willing to support the Government.

The 24-member strong opposition National Conference has ruled out extending support to the Congress-led government while Panthers Party with four members has been at loggerheads with the coalition government since 2005.
