Bangalore: The elections in Karnataka are surely bringing out the best of creativity in the candidates as they adapt innovative poll campaign techniques to woo the voters.
L A Balakrishna — a Suvarna Yuga Party candidate from the Jayanagar constituency — has a long road to take towards political success, and perhaps that’s the reason why he's using new methods to grab attention.
So what if the Election Commission has issued guidelines restricting the campaign budget to Rs 10 lakh?
“Mind is very powerful and I can transmit the signal of love and ask people to vote for me and they will do it. Physically too I am doing some efforts, like I spread leaflets through newspapers and some of my boys are distributing it but I don't do much. I sit at home and meditate and request them bless me with their votes," Balakrishna says.
Balakrishna is not alone. Sajaad Syed Ahmed — another independent candidate — too is catching attention with his cost effective, eco-friendly solar campaign vehicle.
Some others are putting their best foot forward. Padayatra seems to be the best way to go and knock on people's doors.
Karnataka assembly elections 2008 have certainly brought out the most innovative candidates Karnataka's polls have ever seen.
But, in a city whose skyline has grown vertically, the fact that candidates are not allowed inside apartment complexes limits their reach, but not their spirit.
