New Delhi: The mother of Nitish Katara on Wednesday said her faith in the judicial system has strengthened after a court convicted Vikas Yadav and Vishal Yadav for the murder of her son Nitish.
"This is a milestone case and I believe this (judgment) would ensure no other son of any mother would meet such a fate," she said.
"My faith in the judiciary has been vindicated and strengthened with the verdict. Now I am feeling a sense of relief and I am grateful to God," she said.
“I am overwhelmed; it (the judgment) is still to sink in. I had visualised this every day for the last six years and now it is difficult to believe that it has actually happened. It is a huge relief.
“The case dates kept shifting but I knew justice would prevail. These things depend on God—it has to be when it has to be.
“I know this is not the end yet and there are many more battles to be fought but this is a huge milestone,” she told CNN-IBN.
“This judgment proves that an ordinary citizen like me can think of getting justice in such cases.”
Nitish’s younger brother Nitin said he got the courage to fight for justice from his mother. "My mother is my God," he said.
“Lighting my brother’s funeral pyre was a very difficult moment. I hope nobody has to go through that. My memories of Nitish helped me to carry on in these six years. A happy family will go home today with beautiful memories,” said Nitin.
Extending her thanks to the media, Neelam said: "I am thankful to the media for helping me in fighting out the case against a powerful politician. The media has really supported me."
Nitish was kidnapped and murdered after he attended a wedding in Ghaziabad on February 16, 2002.
A court in Delhi on Wednesday found Vikas and Vishal, son and nephew of UP politician D P Yadav, guilty of murdering Nitish.
