MUCH ADO ABOUT DRESSING: The petition says the law bars civilians from wearing the police uniform in public.
Kochi: Malayalam film fans know him as the ultimate police hero — Suresh Gopi has immortalised many roles in uniform, with his punchy dialogues and thrilling stunts.
But when Gopi, who has donned the IPS officer's uniform a hundreds times on the screen, went to a function on community policing wearing an SP's uniform, the reel hero was walking into some real trouble.
An advocate has filed a criminal petition against him saying the law bars civilians from wearing the police uniform in public. Though the very real cops sitting beside Gopi at the function didn't seem to mind.
Advocate, P M Ziraj says, "Instead of arresting him, the police officers accompanied him to the programme."
The actor's defence is that he was shooting for a film and was too busy with things like changing before attending a public function.
However, if the lawyer who has filed the petition has his way, Gopi will be read the riot act. If convicted, he faces up to two years in prison or a fine.
