New Delhi: The Budget for the Indian Railways was presented by Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on Tuesday in Parliament.

The Indian Railways which are the country's largest employer will now give employment to more people in the country.

This popular announcement was made by Lalu Prasad as he read out the Rail Budget. He said that all coolies (porters) will be promoted to the post of gangmen.

"All licensed coolies have been demanding to be included within the the category of gangmen. We are now finnaly making it happen. They will now be appointed within the Class 4 category of gangmen," Lalu said.

He added that the gangmen will be promoted to the post of gatemen.

And porters erupted in joy at the announcement.

A porter said, "Kitne minsiter aaye, chale gaye. Kisi ne kuch nahin kiya. Sirf Lalu ne kar dikhaya. Hum ab tak gulam the. Unhone humein aazad kiya. Hum unke aabhari hain." ("So many Railway ministers came and went but no one did anything for us. Only Lalu has done something. We were like slaves till now. He has given us freedom and we are indebted to him.")

The latest dream Railways Budget was one that mixes populism with a long-term vision for the Railways.
