Lalu's days of milking govt over
New Delhi: RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav has run into trouble with the law yet again. Patna High Court has directed Advocate General P K Sahi to establish if 1 Anne Marg, the Bihar Chief Minister's official residence, was used by Lalu for commercial gains.
The Patna High Court has taken notice of a PIL, filed by a CPI (ML) activist, which says that Lalu is earning a huge sum by running a milk business from his bungalow for the last 15 years.
The PIL demands that all such earnings from the cowshed be deposited in the government treasury and action be taken against him.
"We have said that government accommodation should not be used for business purposes. Action needs to be taken against him," Arvind Kumar, petitioner's advocate, said.
It's the earnings from these cowsheds that Lalu used as defence in the Disproportionate Assets cases.
Assets worth Rs 42 lakh was found disproportionate to his known source of income and Lalu in his defence affidavits claimed that this money came from the milk business that operated from a cowshed in the Chief Minister's bungalow.
Now the Patna High court wants to ascertain whether the cowshed actually existed or not.
"In the PIL it has been stated that a milk business is being run from 1 Anne Marg. Such deeds cannot be allowed from government accommodations and action needs to be taken against such people," Advocate General of Bihar P K Sahi said.
This revelation may not only rob Lalu of his defence in the Disproportionate Assets case but also add to his continuing legal hassles.
