LEAKING ROOF: Many of the badminton matches had to be rescheduled as a result of water leaking into the hall.
Doha: A leaking roof at the badminton stadium disrupted the schedule, forcing the organisers to suspend play on some of the courts on the first day of competitions in the 15th Asian Games on Sunday.
Many of the matches had to be rescheduled as a result of water leaking into the hall overnight at the Aspire Spports Acadmey following heavy showers which also affected the opening ceremony.
According to head referee Mohan Dharan of Singapore, water accumulating in the gutter had caused the leak. The problem was solved quickly, but Dharan felt residual water might cause slight interference.
The capital city of Qatar has been witnessing inclement weather since Saturday with persistent drizzle causing problems for the mediamen as well as the volunteers and officials attached with the Games.
