SPICY TREAT: Lehiyam makes sure that the all the sweets you hogged during Diwali don't make your tummy hurt.
Chennai: Diwali means sweets, sweets and more sweets and for many, an upset stomach at the end of the day. But down South in Tamil Nadu-there's an age-old recipe which makes sure that you can digest anything this festive season.
Well, after hogging all those sweets, if you're worried about your stomach, here’s a rather spicy way to wash it all down.
The remedy might look like the most disagreeable thing to make on Diwali, but this age-old recipe — a concoction of spices and condiments called Deepavali Marundu or Lehyam is what you need to digest all the sweets that you had this festive season.
The way to make the Lehyam is quite simple. Grind dry Ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, garlic, black pepper, etc and then fry them with some gingerly oil, ghee and honey and some jaggery.
A Business Administrator, Anandi Srinivasa Raja says, “Deepavali day is a happy day. If you want your next day to be happy too, you've to have this."
Now that's a priceless suggestion. Though the Leyham is not sweet, it makes sure that you can indulge without worrying too much.
