BEHIND BARS: RK Sharma will now be moved to a new jail in Tihar and then life will get tough.
New Delhi: From IG Prisons in Haryana to a convict in India's largest jail, the tables have turned for RK Sharma, who has been pronounced guilty in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case.
The quantum of punishment has been announced and Sharma will now be moving to a another jail in the Tihar complex and the going will get tough from there on.
The civilian clothes will give way to a white kurta pyjama, the leisure of deciding when to begin his day will be replaced by a strict routine.
Sharma has a PhD in education — a degree which may save him from physical labour. And infact, if a former Tihar DGP's ideas are used, Sharma can keep himself occupied by teaching the children of the jail inmates.
Former IPS officer, Kiran Bedi says, "If I were heading Tihar right now, I would have really put to use his potential in the reformative process of the other prisoners. He could teach them."
Sharma will appeal against his conviction in the High Court, but till that comes up, it would be tough to keep the morale high.
That's where recreation like his favourite sport, badminton, will come in handy. The skills of meditation which he has picked up over the last six years in jail can also hold the ex-IPS officer in good stead.
"He could teach French, he could also take up meditation classes," says Bedi
Sharma has already said he wants to write a book on his experiences in Tihar having seen the prison from both sides of the bar literally. If such is the case, then the book is bound to generate a lot of buzz.
