WHEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT: Companies such as TCS, HCL and Infosys joined in the campaign.
New Delhi: A campaign to save electricity urged Chennai to switch off it's lights for eight minutes at exactly eight pm on Friday, which is the 8th day of the 8th month of 2008.
The 88,888 Lights Out campaign was an initiative by Exnora International to bring awareness among people about global warming and the importance of conserving power.
Companies such as TCS, HCL and Infosys joined them in the campaign. Like many other states in India, Tamil Nadu too suffers from power shortage.
However, people responded well to the Lights Out initiative. Several thousands switched off lights and lit up candles in an effort to save electricity.
Many schools had conducted rallies across the city and distributed pamphlets explaining the effects of global warming and the importance of conserving power.
