New Delhi: The death of BIT- Mesra student Abhishek Mishra at a waterfall near Ranchi got surrounded in a mystery after it was revealed that he had a love affair with Railway Minister Lalu Prasad's daughter Ragini.

Ragini was accompanying Abhishek and two other BIT students on the picnic tour when he drowned at Dassam falls, about 40 km from Ranchi, on Friday.

BIT Vice-Chancellor S K Mukherjee says the group had gone to Dassam falls without informing the institute. The institute, Mukherjee said, learnt about the incident from villagers.

Abhishek's parents have now demanded a CBI probe into the incident, saying the death did not appear to be natural. "The death looked unnatural as there was blood on his face. The autopsy was done within 15 minutes and that declared him drowned," Abhishek's father Subhas Chandra Mishra, a doctor with Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi, told a news agency on Sunday.

He said the police had seized Abhishek's laptop though his mobile was returned. Mishra did not single out anyone for his son death's, but said there should be an inquiry into the incident as there was some 'mystery' behind it. Abhishek's body was fished out and cremated in Ranchi on Sunday.

Superintendent of Police (rural) Upendra Kumar said Ragini accompanied Abhishek for the picnic at the waterfall. The post-mortem report said Abhishek died by drowning, he added.

Former Jharkhand chief minister Arjun Munda too has demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
