This movie is one of those movies that have been carefully made to be utterly crap.I was about to leave during half time but i thought since i paid good money for it, might as well watch it. Rani seems senseless and a puppet doll to shah rukh. What does Ran see in Shah Rukh no one knows.Amitabh is a womanizer and his own affairs with call girls is okay but when he finds out that Rani is having an affair then hes like thats a no no.So much money spent to make a movie that has nothing but a few fancy clothes, some locations and lousy acting from the cast.Overall i'd rate it a minus 10 on a scale of ten.I'd think twice before i'd watch a movie from karan.Oh and yes it highly overated.

KANK should be rightly titled as KAHK because you must say "KABHI ALVIDA HI KAHNA" at least to this movie to all those who have not seen. Please donot waste your time and money on this worst movie of the decade. I donot think anyone would ever spend more than 3 hours to watch this wretched moview. Such a great actor like Amitabh having accepted to act such loose role reduces his image in the market. Amitabh should realise that people have some standard expectation of him and he should be choosy to act.
Karan Johar is good to be seen in Coffee with Karan. Why the hell he has experimented in this making of useless movie and lost whatever respect he was commanding.
Just because all the stars are there, let these so called producers of big banner movie realise that stars doesnot count if there is no good story line.
FINALLY DISSUADE YOURSELF FROM ANYWHERE GOING INTO 5 KM RADIUS OF THIS MOVIE HALL LEST THE HEAD ACHE VIRUS MAY CATCH YOU UP.

Couldn't agree with you more, my fellow sufferer. Not only was it disgusting, it was also excruiciatingly B-O-R-I-N-G. Half the time half the cast is weeping - in the rain, in the snow, amongst leaves, in hospitals... The rest of the time they are arguing and insulting each other. And 3 of the 6 main characters are totally unlikeable. Mr Masand, your pasand is poor, poor, poor.

agree with you fully... you have full support. its the useless movie ever made in bollywood till now.. ofcouse i have every right to exgagerate this.. its totally useless..

Mr. Masand, I am not really interested in knowing how much you got for this review from M/s Johar and Khan company, but I do know that your review is for sale. Not a very happening idea for a person who wants to be dubbed a serious film critic, which i assume you do. One has to be either dumb or doped to like this movie. Shahrukh is the demigod of monologue, monoactig, and self-praise. Throw in a little of his arched brows, and that is the sum-total of his acting skills. Mr. Johar should have been a NRI kid living in New York - he can't think outside that city. I will let that pass, but what pains me to no end is that he tried his hand at a serious subject and messed it up so badly. He should stick to what he does best - usage of glycerine, garish costumes, and larger than life characters who mysteriously earn large sums of money without ever doing anything. He reminds me of the eighties - the most pathetic time of Indian movie history. he would have fitted perfectly. You know what, may be next time you should try to get a lead role in his movies - with such review, you are his new heart-throb. Party on

Hey every one I believe this movie was a victim of a negative publicity unleashed by some ppl ,following which i really did drop my plans of watching this movie KANK ,but thnx to my GF I watched it today . Well the only minus I came out was the length of the movie, which is not a big issue considering the time taken by the story and the characters to really mature. I believe SRK has acted for the second time in his life(after Swades) -I simply desist his acting skills but in this movie he has somewhat redeemed himself by giving a mature performance.Rani is a disappointment after raising our expectations ,but the star of the show has to be Abhishek just watch him in the scene where he and Rani have a fight after Rani confesses of her affair with SRK,he jst burns down the screen ,comparable to the best ever. Amitabh rocks again ,needless to say he was hilarious throughout but his most memorable scene was where Rani and him r sitting in the kitchen after AB comes to know of her affair -he said so much without uttering a word ( GENIUS).I BELIEVE there is a fashion to bash anything emotional or a movie about sentiments these days ,Why?? Go watch KANK and then to each his own.
( Posted: Tuesday , August 15, 2006 at 22:30 )
manushree,
I have never heard of a single person ever being against emotional movies or bashing them because they are emotional. Give us more credit, give the layman who watches movies everyday more credit. the movie was done badly, thats why people hated it. This was a movie made by a man who has never been married and hence had stereptyical , over drawn, reasonless scenes and story lines. How many men and women leave because someone else was better in bed, and they termed " ohhh! i am in love". the reasons why relationships break are complex. In the movie, the word complex is lost. Its simple, simply false.
( Posted by champ on )
Champ , I agree with u on one point that the reasons given for breakup of Rani's and Ab marriage were absurd at the best ,but how many Hindi movies have u seen which have logic behind them,I hv seen none.My all time favourite has to be RDB but do u think killing the defence minister in the end was logical? Hindi movies r not supposed to be logical, they have never been but atleast give credit to the performers in the movie who have given life to such an absurd storyline and I cannot point to a flaw in KJ's direction -it was hi s best ever work(i think Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was his worst). In the end I'd like to say I myself am a layman but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.Just watch without any extra baggage and u'll love it.
( Posted by Manushree Gupta on )
oh dear,
now we have been told that we shouldnt have baggages, infact that a movie should make no sense at all. hmm.. interesting theory. Wow this is good news for all scriptwriters today. HEY GUYS !! NO NEED TO go TO FILM SCHOOL! YOU DONT NEED TO MAKE SENSE ANYMORE!
Splendid, see you just made every filmmakers day today! Finally we dont have to be talented anymore!! what a load off! And the audience can keep shelling out hard earned money for non sensical stuff. and you know why! cause guess what we carry too much extra baggage. you know things like logic, good taste, understanding, etc etc. No no people ! bad bad! we should infact have no sense at all ! Go on cross towards the otherside when there is traffic. God knows what might happen if you use logic and not cross!
( Posted by sachin on )
Now Sachin u r taking it too personally, maybe u do carry such extra baggage .What I said i said with total conviction ,I never advocated nonsense to percolate into our movies .If u hv been watching Hindi movies ,u will agree with me that logic perse is a non existent entity in our movies. Now a caution being logical and being non sensical r very two different things,u should realise that. I quite liked the movie tho' not one of my all time favs ,but nothing in the movie to merit such vitriolic comments from u .You r a differnt person than I am,and I accept tht u may not hv liked the movie .

Movie is Horrible Unbearable and utter waste of time. I still don’t understand why did Karan Johar took Big B in this movie and surprising the Big B signed the movie to swing his hands around Ghori chori. The movie can be rated 1 of 5. I don’t really understand what Rajeev Parameter is in rating a movie. Was there something which he made him rate it and as usual sharuk is stero typed typical lips moving show.

C'mon its just escapist cinema.Karan Johar has the right to interpret reality as he sees it,write his characters as he wants.Do characters like this not appear in our real lives?dont we all have shades of grey ? and dont we all fall inappropriately in love some time?all of you guys who are writing in -- arent you all losers in some respect? should you be denied love becos of that? Look around you--most marriages are flawed. are your parents marriages not flawedin some respect? people have carried on because they had kids and because time heals.sometimes marriages are not flawed becos the husband beats the wife or the wife is a nymphomaniac.marriages can be flawed because of incompatibility--becos two humans dont have that spark that makes a fire together. Yes the Indian tradition decrees that you should carry on in such a marriage- try and make it work somehow---but at what cost? dont glorify a compromised marriage just because it makes you uncomfortable to think of it.
( Posted: Tuesday , August 15, 2006 at 21:31 )
nobody is preaching here.my parents doesn't have anuthing in commun and a constent tension between who makes me think that they should divorce and find their happiness elsewhere.so i don't have any problem with the subject!but that doesn't mean i must accept such a weak treatement of such a sensible and serious topic!and that's why i see the movie as a let down!

What I feel disturbed abt iis the status quoist and moralistic stance that everyone is taking. There are people who dont click and putting them together and expecting them to work their marriage is what Arranged marriages are all about. It is a deeply flawed system where women, always more cynical than men , marry becos that man has more money ,lives abroad, works in a foreign bank, has cool wheels than other men.And men marry becos that woman brought in more dowry, was more beautiful, belonged to the same caste. its a very commercial decision.so as such two people can spend their lives just warring, bringing up unhappy children and what a waste of life that is. the point I am trying to make is that sheer incompatibility is a good enough reason.as a society we must recognise that so we give strength to people to quit unhappyt circumstances. at least KANK raises this issue.
( Posted by mona on )
i totally disagree that arranged marriages are commercial ventures for both the spouses. lets not generalize one's own experience to the whole world.
( Posted by vivek on )
incompatibility and anything else tht is responsible for the marriage going bad does not mean that the only way out of marriage is to hav an affair outside why didnt ranis chracter have courage to walk out of the marriage before she met srk and all tht tlk about soulmate is bullshit only thing the 2 chrcters were going thru was boredom and to alleviate that they spice up their life. KJ just cloaks it up with mushy sentimentality tht is difficult to digest he gets starstruck in the middle of his movie and the chrcters take a backseat(as thin as they were) and srk and rani take over the climax proves this abhi and zinta give their stamp of approval to rani n srk's so called love which is the worst blow to the dignity of their chrcters karan lacked a heart as he chickened out badly. performance wise abhi was exceptional and preity added grace and dignity to her role. srk was pretty bad and rani as usual was her worst self. she happens to be the most overhyped actress and in this movie she didn't have it in her to carry the lead role. she is the weakest point of the movie after screenplay, srk, karan, music ......

How can you just judge all arranged marriage are flawed. Do you think all love marriages are compatible, they just marry other person and live happly ever after?? I see many love marriges lead to divorces, that you can check. No two people are same, so compatibility is achieved, every partner has to sacrifice something to get compatibility. When every partner just thinks about their freedom, with out thinking about other partner then the uncaompitibility happens, this can happen in arranged marriage or love marriage. Atleast in arranged marriage you have some elder people who can reason and avoid seperations due to some silly reasons because of and unmatured young hot heads. If not being passionate in marriage is a sole reason for infidility and subsequent separation is utter nonesense. Then human are better uncivilized in stone age where sole aim of coupling was sheer physical attributes and produce children. Marriage is lot more than just passion.

what i cant understand is why shld so many people get so hot under the collar just because to them there wasnt reason enough for the marriage to break up. It cld just be that rani dosent like abhishek--the strongest evidence is that she dosent want tosleep with him.Why is that not a strong enough reason .Why shld anyone sacrifice ---sleep with someone u dont want to just tpo keep a marriage intact---is that not a marriage in name?and if she dows find peace with a guy who is an out and out loser --so what? shld lovecome only to the best looker ,the most successful---in fact the typical hindi film hero? why cant you have a woman who just wants to be with this loser? why must the director justify the unfaithfulness? WATCH OUT --when u demand that there was no reason for them to be in love you go against the cardinal principal---love happens between the most unlikely ppl.If it did not---well then love would not happen to most of us who arent all tyat good looking dont have well toned bodies, have paunches ,are not terribly interesting converstionalist ,dont earn that well and are just quite simple ordinary folk.

Rajeev i was disappointed when you gave 4 stars to what is easily worst movie of the yera or you didnt want to say anything against a industry biggie.I saw people leaving halfway and feeling disgusted, you should have gone outside theatres and asked for audience reaction.Shahrukh looks old and he hams throughout he should take a break ans come out of this i am best syndrome.Karan sure doesnt knoe anythin about relationships.Pathetic.Just one thing did karan pay you for this review.

the movie wasnt all dat bad..not many things in da movie u can say dont happen in real life..was a bit close to reality..like 1st thing u ask ur wife is wether se slept with the man or not..thats jus an example...so it was a bit real not a fairy tale like kal ho naa ho in wich shahrukh alwz plays da angel...mayb ppl don wanna see that..the characters played their part beautifully but yes the movie was i think a bit long..everythin happens in the 1st half only and second one is then just a drag overall nice movie..not as good as the earlier ones...
