A QUESTION OF FAITH: Protestors want closure of the Sethusamudram shipping canal project.
New Delhi: Fresh from the Gujarat and Himachal Assembly election triumphs, the saffron brigade is staging protests in New Delhi against the Sethusamudram project off the coast of Tamil Nadu.
A rally organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), is being held at the Swarn Jayanti Park in Rohini in northwest Delhi on Sunday afternoon to protest the destruction of the Ram Setu.
Senior VHP leader Ashok Singhal along with KC Sudarshan of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) and several Hindu religious leaders are expected to address the rally.
Bajrang Dal State convenor Sandeep Pahal said that Shankaracharya Swami Ramdeo and Mandaleshwar Swami Vivekanand are also expected to attend the rally.
Over one thousand buses and about two thousand other vehicles are being engaged to ferry people to Delhi, he added.
The protestors are demanding a closure to the Sethusamudram shipping canal project off the coast of Tamil Nadu, which they say will destroy a bridge built by Lord Ram. The Supreme Court has already stayed the project.
Delhi Police have made arrangements to regulate traffic in the area.
