New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Fisheries Minister Jamuna Nishad, who was charged with murder, resigned from the cabinet on Sunday.

In what seems to be yet another case of hooliganism by a Minister, an FIR was filed against Nishad for murder of a police constable by one of his supporters on Saturday.

According to reports, Nishad along with his supporters stormed the Maharajganj Police Station in Gorakhpur to protest against alleged police inaction in a case involving the rape of a girl from the Nishad community.

An altercation soon broke out between the policemen and the Minister's supporters who thrashed the policemen and also allegedly damaged property of the police station.

The fight took an ugly turn and Nishad's supporters allegedly shot a constable to death.

The police also said that the protestors looted arms from the police station.

Maintaining law and order in UP was one of the Chief Minister’s prime concern when she came to power last year.

What now needs to be seen is will the UP Chief Minister take strict action against her Minister as she took in the latest Arushi murder case in Noida.

Mayawati had transferred senior officials and asked the CBI to take over the Arushi murder case after the Noida Police could not solve it.
