MBA institute derecognised, future bleak for 400 students

New Delhi: The dreams of almost 400 odd Master of Business Administration (MBA) students in New Delhi may come to naught as the Indian Institute of Management Research (IIMR) where they are studying in is faced with derecognition.

One of the students of the institute, 21-year-old Arunesh Singh is recovering in a city hospital after attempting suicide on Friday.

Arunesh tried to kill himself after realising that the private college he had joined was reportedly not recognised. Arunesh's family in Kanpur had taken a Rs 3-lakh loan to fund his MBA in Delhi

"I'll immolate myself if nothing is done to give us justice," Arunesh Singh says.

Angry students of the institute went on rampage as the news of derecognition spread on Friday.

The students at IIMR allege they were an MBA in Pharma, but instead were being given a distance learning degree.

They have filed an Right to Information (RTI) to know whether the affiliation of the institute to the Rajasthan based IASE University stands. The Institute however insists that everything is in order.

"We have all the registrations required to run this college and all the documents have been submitted to the court," Dinesh Singh, Administrative Officer, IIMR, says.

The director of the Institute SK Singh was arrested on Saturday on the charges of cheating. A city court denied him bail asking the police to further investigate the matter.

Even as Arunesh recovers and contemplates a future course of action, between allegations and counter allegations that the institute he's studying in is derecognised, his future and the future of 400 other students hangs in balance.
