Mumbai: He is the man director Ram Gopal Varma trusts when it comes to the background score of his films. And believe it or not, he is the one man RGV hasn’t had a fight with even after doing over a dozen films together. This week on Bet You Don’t Know, meet music composer Amar Mohile.

Amar started playing the piano when he was seven years old. Since his father was already a well known arranger, Amar decided to play the keyboard for his father instead of going to college. He got his big break with Rajat Mukherjee's Road produced by RGV in 2002. And from Road to the recent Sarkar Raj the association with the temperamental filmmaker continues.

“Whatever films we do, we do it like a new film. We, especially he never takes our along association for granted. Every film is treated in a new manner,” Amar said.

Amar has composed the background score for over 40 films including Sarkar, Nishabd, Darna Zaroori Hai, My Wife's Murder, Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost, Ek Aur Ek Gyaarah and Woodstock Villa.

He has also dabbled in composing songs for films like Naach, Ek Ajnabi and Gayab but Amar doesn’t want to switch to mere song compositions.

“I started out as keyborad player, doing arrangements. so I love composing background scores, arrangements and songs. I don’t see myself doing only songs because I love the process of doing background arrangements,” Amar said.

Many a times, Amar has been criticised for letting his loud background track overtake the narrative, especially in films like Sarkar Raj, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag and Nishabd but Amar explained, “I think it’s completely the requirement of the director, the way he wants to play with the scenes and dialogues. Loudness can be the level of the sounds. I don’t think that music can be loud if it’s a 100 or 200 piece orchestra. I have done other films like Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon, where it’s soft because they wanted it like that.”

The 32-year-old is currently composing the score for Mission Istanbul and is also teaming up with RGV for his next two projects Contract and Phoonk.
