Chennai: It's a murder that's brought into focus the deep divisions within the legendary late Chief Minister M G R's family. Fifty-three-year-old Vijaykumar MGR's foster son-in-law was murdered in a posh Chennai locality on Wednesday night.

The Chennai police suspect that the murder could be the result of a fierce property dispute within MGR's family.

In January 2008 visit by J Jayalalithaa to MGR's house on her mentor's birth anniversary brought the flash light's on the late Chief minister's family amongst those meeting her was 53-year-old Vijaykumar MGR's foster son in law.

The same man who was murdered on Wednesday night by a group of unidentified men in a posh Chennai locality.

Vijaykumar's wife Sudha is one of MGR's adopted daughters and they lived in the former chief minister's home on the outskirts of Chennai.

Sudha says, “I have no clue how it happened my son called to tell me that dad has been hit by someone and is being taken to the hospital all I know after that is he is dead.”

The police say initial investigations reveal that Vijaykumar was in his car when suddenly an ambassador car rammed into the car. When he stepped out of his car he was hit with clubs.

The police suspect that murder could be the result of an ongoing property dispute within MGR's family itself.

The late chief minister and AIADMK founder had left behind properties worth crore, which have been at the heart of a fierce family dispute.

Chennai Commissioner of Police R Sekar said, “The family of the former chief minister's relatives have long standing civil dispute over the deaf and dumb school and the Ramavaram gardens. Seven teams have been formed to look into the case and we will crack the case shortly."

In the recent past Vijaykumar was a Jayalalithaa loyalist and had recently taken up legal battles against politicians like Vijayakanth who had staked claim to MGR's legacy. His murder now has brought out the darker side within the legendary leader's family.
