Online matchmakers tie up with cell phone providers to find the eligible match.
Anuradha SenGupta: You have seen a lot of people who have been deprived of their basic rights. You are 75 today. What is it that keeps your spirit alive even today?
Ela Bhatt: It is these women. It is this grass root contact. It keeps you alive and gives you hope. Our Indians are so resourceful and as they think of their problems, they have also thought of solutions. Whenever I see them bringing collectively, this positivity and spirit, particularly women, then there is no reason to be cynical. I don’t aim for a result. I know what change we want and where we are going wrong. I am never in a hurry to achieve something.
Anuradha SenGupta: You said you are not in the numbers game?
Ela Bhatt: Numbers game. Yes. I am also not in a hurry to achieve something. With experience you see that you have achieved one thing and within that achievement, you find two failures are born. Those failures also, I don’t see as failures, because that also throws out a lot of new opportunities. It is like River Ganga. Sometimes, it is thin and sometimes it becomes broad, throws away the dirt on the side and still carries on.
Anuradha SenGupta: If I ask you what is it like being Ela Bhatt. What would you say?
Ela Bhatt: I would like to say but it is not true. I do things the right way. For me, how you do things and what way you move, is the most important thing. To what really puts its imprint in history, is how you did things and in what way you achieved things.
Anuradha SenGupta: That is the essence of Ela Bhatt?
Ela Bhatt: You know that better. I don’t think that way. You made me think that way.
Anuradha SenGupta: We hope that you get to implement at least something’s you want. If that means that SEWA could offer insurance. That is what we wish you right now.
