More cops in the line of Mayawati's ire

CRACKDOWN CONTINUES: Last week, Maya suspended 6,500 cops hired for the Police Armed Constabulary.
New Delhi: There is no end to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's wrath against the policemen who were recruited by the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav regime.
After suspending 12 top IPS officers, CNN-IBN has learnt that the UP government is going to act against more than 4,000 policemen who were recruited in violation of norms.
Just last week, 6,500 cops hired for the Police Armed Constabulary were suspended. These actions are being taken as part of recommendations of STF Additional director general Shailja Kant Mishra.
The inquiry committee submitted a detailed report to the government, a copy of which is available with CNN IBN. The report indicates:
- The minimum height norm was overlooked.
- Forged mark-sheets of Class X were submitted.
- Tabulation sheets were found to be incorrect.
- Forged letters of caste certificate and dependents of freedom fighters were found.
- Discrepancies in answer sheets were found.
- Several criminals with pending cases too had managed to join the force.
