Lucknow: The former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Mulayam Singh Yadav’s son Akhilesh and brother Shivpal Singh Yadav have been roughed up by the Uttar Pradesh police.

Mulayam calls it political vendetta while Mayawati says that action was against the goondas.

“She will kill my brother,” says Mulayam.

While Mayawati says, “Nobody will be spared, be it anybody.”

It all started with the youth wing of the Samajwadi Party launching an agitation in Lucknow.

They were upset with the ban on student's union elections in the state.

The ensuing melee was enough to create tension in adjoining parts of Lucknow resulting in the death of two with the police firing in SP stronghold of Safai and tension building up in many other parts of the state.

“Why ban the students’ elections?” questions Akhilesh.

Law and order was a big talking point in last years UP elections.

And this issue continues to haunt Mulayam even today. Mayawati may have replaced Mulayam but whether it is terror strikes or violent protests like these, law and order continues to be a problem in UP.

Almost 17 years back Mayawati and Mulayam parted ways after the historic state guesthouse episode in which the SP leaders allegedly molested Mayawati.

Since then UP's two top leaders have never missed an opportunity to hit out at each other.

The police action against agitating students is the latest flashpoint in this tussle between the two leaders.
