SERIOUS CHARGE: Bhushan said SC is giving protection to corrupt judicial officers.
New Delhi: A judge hearing the multi-crore Ghaziabad PF scam, allegedly involving High Court and Supreme Court judges, on Thursday withdrew from the case.
Justice B N Agarwal refused to hear the case after a bitter argument between senior counsel Shanti Bhushan and him.
Things went out of control following a comment by Bhushan that Supreme Court is giving protection to corrupt judicial officers.
This drew an emotional response from justice Agarwal, who said, “Senior counsels are abusing the judges. This is most unfortunate. You are behaving in the most unbecoming manner.”
But Shanti Bhushan says he was misunderstood. One Supreme Court and 11 High Court judges have been named in the Ghaziabad PF scam.
The allegations against them are that they have received gifts purchased from this ill-gotten money.
The Ghaziabad PF scam has thrown up many prickly questions about judges integrity and accounatabilty but the way the matter are being heard here in the Supreme court isn’t helping the cause either.
