IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT: It is believed that Nandita may soon write a book on her experience as a director.
Mumbai: Critically claimed actress Nandita Das has now turned filmmaker with Firaaq.
After films like 1947 Earth and Fire, the spotlight will now be on her cast.
She gathered some of India's best actors to star in her film Firaaq, including Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal and Deepti Naval, to name a few.
The film has five stories woven together and it explores how violence affects the ordinary man's daily life.
“If you have the right caste, then your half the battle is won. It should be done according to the characters in the script. I knew some actors among those in the cast. So they agreed to be a part of the film, first for the fact that we were friends and then because of the script,” says Nandita Das.
With such talented cast on board, shooting surely turns out to be like an ongoing actors' workshop.
“Nandita understood the nuances of performance. She understood the sub-text so beautifully and she had her own script, which she believed in. I know one felt very safe being directed by her,” says actor Sanjay Suri.
“I have become a favourite of actors turning directors. Who knows Shah Rukh may turn to direction soon,” says actress, Tisca Chopra.
Meanwhile, it is believed that Nandita may soon write a book on her experience as a director.
