New Delhi: The Congress has launched a direct attack on the Left parties, signaling that the ruling UPA-Left alliance at the Centre is about to end.

Addressing a public meeting at Jhajjar in Haryana, party chief Sonia Gandhi described those opposing the Indo-US nuclear deal as enemies of development.

Taking a belligerent stance, she urged people to give a befitting reply to those opposing the deal.

“Today power supply is an important issue. We're trying to solve the problem through the nuclear deal. Every time there is a programme, there are objections raised. These people are not only against the Congress, but also against the development of the country. This time we will protest and give them a befitting reply,” said Sonia.

The statement comes a day after both the Congress chief as well as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh indicated that the Congress was considering mid-term elections as an option.

The Left-UPA panel on the nuclear deal is to meet for the third time on Tuesday to sort out differences on the issue. Also the government International Atomic Energy Agency chief is arriving in Delhi.

Meanwhile, RSP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Abani Roy has said there is no question of not pulling out now because UPA looks very much prepared to go ahead with the nuke deal.

“Left is also prepared to go for polls and they will go to the people saying that UPA has not stuck to its Common Minimum Programme but has wasted three years in pleasing and pacifying Bush," said Roy.
