new Delhi: Nepal's Constituent Assembly has failed to elect a president. However, Madhesi People's Rights Forum leader Parmanand Jha was elected Vice-President.

In a secret ballot held on Saturday, the House saw a vertical split, with the Nepali Congress candidate Ram Baran Yadav falling short by just four votes.

Jha was elected Vice-President with 312 votes, with the support of Nepali Congress and the Communist Party of Nepal.

The election was a contest between Congress and CPN-UML, which are the second and third largest parties after the Maoists.
